“A true witness delivers souls, but a deceitful witness speaks lies.” Proverbs 14:35
Lying under oath in a court of law is perjury and a very serious offense. A false witness will be punished by the judge or prosecutor. But many of us overlook the fact that a lying witness must also answer to a higher authority–God.
It has been my experience in the court room that a true witness is in most cases more convincing. I have seen true witnesses deliver an accused in a criminal trial, a small child in a custody suit, a builder in a contract dispute, and a widow in a probate contest–to cite a few examples. I cannot tell you that truth always prevails in our court system. It is a system of man-made laws and rules. But I do know that there is one simple thing to remember: God is truth and justice.
